Self-Paced RI Certified Horticulturist Course Summer 2024 Application Registration Closed

24 Jun 2024 - 30 Jun 2024

Thank you very much for your interest in the Rhode Island Certified Horticulturist program. This is the RI*CH course application.

Please visit this link to read a full description of the RI*CH program before you submit this application.

Space in the RI*CH course is limited and enrollment is not guaranteed. Priority admission will be given to experienced green industry professionals, level 2 Registered Apprentices, and students in industry-related programs. This is not an entry-level certificate. If you have any questions or concerns about this requirement or if this program is the right fit for you, please contact RINLA's Director of Education, Jordan Miller, at education.rinla@gmail.com.

The application fee is $100 and if you are admitted to the program, the course fee is an additional $450. If this session becomes full but your application is accepted, you will be given the option to defer your enrollment to a later date. If your application to the RI*CH program is declined, you will be refunded half of your application fee.

Once you are admitted, there will be an online course orientation on Monday, 6/24. The course is self-paced, so you will be able to do its work at your own convenience. This format allows you to learn on your own time, at any hour, to fit your schedule.

If admitted, at the end of this course you will take an exam in two parts. The is based on the RI*CH Manual and the content from the RI*CH course. The second part is plant identification. There will be a facilitated study session with RINLA's Director of Education on Tuesday, August 20 to prepare for the first part of the exam.

All parts of the exam will be offered on August 27 (course exam and final project) and September 14 (plant ID) for those who are ready to take them, but optional courses and workshops to support plant ID learning will be offered in 2025 for an additional fee and an additional testing date will follow.

If you do not pass any particular portion of the RI*CH exam at the end of this course, you will have an 18-month grace period to do so. You will also have the opportunity to enroll in those plant identification course and workshop options. Additionally, an online, live and synchronous version of the RI*CH course will be available this fall.

If you have any questions or difficulties, please feel free to reach out to Jordan Miller, Director of Education and Training, at education.rinla@gmail.com.
